The Problem with Self-Initiated ARE Study Groups
For 4 years, I’ve have been traveling around America and extensively giving lectures about the Architect Exam and Entrepreneurship.
After numerous conversations, I’ve learned that many ARE Candidates would love to work together and study in a group.
However, most study groups make a crushing mistake: ARE Candidates place too much emphasis on putting information into their heads, and never actually practice a way to recall any of it.
Here’s the truth:
The Architect Exam ONLY cares about your ability to recall the right answer at a moment’s notice and not how many books you’ve read.
For the past 4 years, I’ve been running an online ARE Study Group Called The ARE Boot Camp. This is a highly-effective approach I’ve been perfecting, that focuses on a deep understanding of ARE material, rather than short-term memorization that won’t actually help you in the long run. I’ve supported over 1,000 ARE Candidates through this powerful process.
Then in the fall and the spring of 2018, I took one of the most innovative study strategies from the Boot Camp, and taught it in person at new study groups that I now call the ARE Sessions.
The focus of these study sessions will be working on practice questions. As a group, we’ll discuss why each answer is correct, and we’ll ultimately teach the content to each other through these conversations.
I’ve learned that knowing the wrong answers on practice questions (and why they’re wrong) is just as helpful as knowing the right answers.
But most importantly, this form of studying has ALWAYS proven to be MOST effective: having a normal, everyday conversation about the content you’re studying with other people who are studying the same thing.
In these study sessions, we’ll also discuss ARE testing strategies and the big concepts. And we’ll support each other throughout the process.
Before meeting Michael and discovering The ARE Sessions, I felt lost on the way to study. Sessions taught me how other ARE candidates analyze the question and come with a different or same answer. Knowing that there is a large community out there that is going through the same process as me, has helped me tremendously, and let me know I am not alone in the path to licensure. – Cecilia Cano, ARE Candidate
With the ARE Sessions, I’ve learned how to be infinitely more effective in my approaching the ARE questions than when I used to read textbooks all by myself. – Esther Martinez, ARE Candidate
During the Fall of 2019, I (Architect Michael Riscica from YoungArchitect.com) will be hosting an in-person 10-Week ARE Study Workshop .
The Tampa and St. Peterburg 2019 ARE Study Sessions
