What an architect does
It amazes me how numb I have gotten to the inevitable drama of my projects. The fact that shit goes wrong used to drive me nuts and I would react. Now I plan, wait for it, chuckle when it happens and dont react. Something goes wrong on every single project, it is inevitable, it is reality.
Creating the architecture is only 20% of the project and 80% of it is the execution.
Practicing architecture is often very little about drawing, design or construction. Its more about solving all types of problems across every discipline. Communication problems, permitting problems, personality problems, accounting problems, client expectation problems, construction site drama. These problems keep me interested. I used to draw buildings all day long and doing only that gets old really really fast. Infact it was torture.
